WealthR vs Aureli: a tracker that updates itself, against a planner that does the tax

Aureli connects your banks and keeps your net worth current. WealthR works out what that number means — the tax, the drawdown, and the date you can stop working. Here is where each one actually wins.

The short answer

Aureli is a net worth tracker that connects to your banks and keeps the number current by itself. WealthR is a UK planner that works out what the number means — the tax, the drawdown, the date you can stop. If you want the balance to update without you, Aureli does something WealthR deliberately does not. If you want to know what happens when you start taking the money out, that is the whole of WealthR.

They are not really competing for the same hour of your life. Aureli answers what am I worth today. WealthR answers what happens next, and what will HMRC take.

Prices, checked as of 12 October 2026. Aureli: Lite free, Pro £79 a year or £9 a month, 14-day trial, card required. WealthR: free tier, Pro £5.99/month or £39.99/year, 7-day trial. WealthR Pro is a little over half Aureli Pro on the annual plan. Both let you stay on the free tier indefinitely.

What each does well

Aureli: the number stays current without you

The strongest thing about Aureli is that you can stop maintaining it. Connect your banks through open banking, tick the holdings you want priced automatically, and the total looks after itself. On Pro that stretches to 25 bank connections and unlimited auto-updating assets, across currencies, converted at live rates. If your money is spread over several countries, that is genuinely hard to replicate by hand.

The iPhone app arrived in June 2026 and does nearly everything the web app does. Android users get the web app rather than a native build, which matters if push notifications are the reason you wanted an app at all.

The free Lite tier is a plan rather than a trial — you can sit on it indefinitely. It caps at 5 assets, 5 debts, one portfolio and one bank connection, which is enough to see whether you like it and not enough for most people's real balance sheet.

WealthR: the number is the beginning, not the answer

WealthR starts where a tracker stops. Once your figures are in, it runs them forward to age 99 — growth, contributions, property, debt, life events — and then does the part most tools leave out: it works out the tax.

That means real UK rules, not a flat percentage. Income tax and National Insurance on separate bases. Scottish bands where they apply. The personal-allowance taper above £100k. The High Income Child Benefit Charge. The Personal Savings Allowance, the starting rate for savings, dividend rates and Capital Gains Tax. In retirement it stacks earned income, then savings, then dividends in HMRC's own order.

Then it plans the drawdown: which pot pays in which year, what each withdrawal costs in tax, and when the money runs out. It models the State Pension from your NI record, final-salary pensions with their accrual and tax-free cash, and AVCs alongside the scheme they belong to. It runs 5,000 simulated futures so you can see how the plan holds up in a bad sequence rather than an average one, and it shows a single run year by year rather than only the headline odds.

And 32 free UK calculators sit outside the app entirely, no sign-up, for the one-off questions.

The honest gap

WealthR has no bank linking, and that is a deliberate choice rather than a missing feature: no open-banking connections, nothing to reconnect every ninety days, and no third party holding a key to your accounts. The cost is that you keep your own figures current, once a month. Some people find that a feature. If you want a balance that updates while you sleep, Aureli does that and WealthR does not.

When to choose which

Choose Aureli if

  • You want balances to update themselves and you are comfortable connecting accounts.
  • Your money sits in more than one currency and you want it converted at live rates.
  • You want a native iPhone app with notifications.
  • You want to give someone else edit access to the same picture.
  • What you need is an accurate current total, not a projection.

Choose WealthR if

  • You are between about 45 and 60 and the real question is when you can stop.
  • You have UK pensions — workplace, SIPP, final-salary, AVCs — and want them modelled as pensions rather than as balances.
  • You want the tax worked out properly: Scottish bands, the £100k taper, dividends, CGT, the savings allowances.
  • You want a drawdown plan that says which pot pays and what the tax costs.
  • You would rather type your figures once a month than connect your bank.

Honestly, both

They overlap less than their categories suggest. Aureli keeps the balance sheet current; WealthR turns a balance sheet into a retirement plan. Running Aureli for the daily total and WealthR for the decade-long question is a perfectly sensible pair, and cheaper together than most single adviser meetings.

FAQ

Is Aureli free?

There is a free Lite plan you can stay on indefinitely, capped at 5 assets, 5 debts, one portfolio and one bank connection. Pro is £79 a year or £9 a month with a 14-day trial that requires a card. Checked as of 12 October 2026.

Is WealthR cheaper?

On the annual plan, yes — £39.99 a year against £79. Monthly it is £5.99 against £9. Both have a free tier, though they limit different things: Aureli caps how many assets you can hold, WealthR caps how many properties and other assets count toward your net worth.

Does WealthR connect to my bank?

No, and it will not. You enter your figures or import a CSV. That is why there is nothing to reconnect and no third party holding access to your accounts.

Can Aureli tell me when I can retire?

Not in the way a planner does. It has milestones and scenarios, but it does not model UK income tax, pension drawdown, the State Pension or final-salary schemes, so it cannot tell you what a withdrawal costs or how long a pot lasts after tax.

Which is better for UK pensions?

WealthR, clearly. Aureli treats a pension as an asset balance. WealthR treats it as a pension: contributions and employer top-ups, tax relief at your marginal rate, tax-free cash, the access age, final-salary accrual, and what each withdrawal costs once you start taking it.

Do I have to choose?

No. They answer different questions and plenty of people would be well served by both.
